Get So Motivated, You'll Find Yourself Writing Your Socks Off

They say Ernest Hemingway once said, "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed."

If you're like me, you're probably thinking, "Whoa! I know content marketing and writing will help me build tons of exposure, but I didn't sign up for this!" Don't worry: Many successful and prolific writers (from all walks of life), have found various writing methods to stay motivated and actually succeed without having to open up a vein.

You can use their methods and enjoy writing, too! All you need is a little push.

Today's that day: November 1st marks National Author's Day (that's you - whether you're published or want to be published fiction writer or non-fiction writer). It's on this day that writers from around the world rejuvenate their writing efforts by assigning themselves an exacting challenge. Many non-fiction authors will challenge themselves to write and publish at least one article a day - without sacrificing quality. Fiction writers aspiring to publish a novel may choose to participate in a widely known National Novel Writing Month challenge known as NaNoWriMo. Many non-fiction authors can benefit from following NaNoWriMo guidelines to dominate their own writing goals this November.

What's NaNoWriMo?

From plumbers and nurses to amateur and professional authors, NaNoWriMo (NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth) participants challenge themselves to write a 50,000 word novel starting on November 1 and finishing by the end of November. Thousands have used NaNoWriMo to celebrate their passion for writing and achieve their dream of publishing a novel. NaNoWriMo is largely on the honor system because when it comes down to it, it's your goal. Cheating won't help you get published. Cheating won't get you readers. In the end, quality always wins the race, no matter the word count or deadline.

Top 7 Tips to Get it Done

The forums and "pep talks" (advice from fellow writers) available on NaNoWriMo help keep participants motivated. Here's some of the most invaluable pieces of advice that you can start applying to your own writing goals today:

  • Use resources, like writing guides and prompts, to help brainstorm ideas and make your writing process more efficient.
  • Train yourself to eliminate and ignore distractions.
  • Get a challenge partner for friendly competition and support for when you meet each milestone.
  • Inform those you live with the importance of your goal and how they can specifically help you (even if it's "don't bother me" during a particular period of time).
  • Don't be a perfectionist while you're writing - write now, revise next, and edit later.
  • Find time to write and stick to it by making writing a part of your routine.
  • Avoid putting writing off by waking up earlier if you're typically drained at the end of the day to write or taking an extended lunch if your prime creative time is midday.

Create Your Own Writing Challenge

Ready? Set your intention! Here are some questions to help you establish your goal for November:

  • What's your writing goal for this month?
  • What milestones must you meet to achieve the goal?
  • How will you prioritize tasks to ensure your writing goal doesn't fall to the wayside?
  • What tools can you use to effectively reach your goal?

Marc De Bruin "I am really grateful that sites like Ezinearticles exist ..."

I have really loved my journey with EzineArticles so far. It's a great tool to use. I often consider the amount of work that must go into this site. If I had to do all that myself, I'd go mad! I am really grateful that sites like Ezinearticles exist, as they make life for not-too-techie authors like me so much easier! And in a strange way, EzineArticles.com is somewhat of an accountability partner for me as well. If I don't post anything for a while, I start feeling guilty! Which makes me write, get noticed; which then motivates me to write more, etc.!
