J. Donald Walters The path to success is to take massive, determined action. - Anthony Robbins To succeed... you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you. - Tony Dorsett ------------------------------------------------------------ *** ARTICLE: How to Make a Strong First Impression: Seven Tips That Really Work - By Bill Lampton *** ------------------------------------------------------------ We have all heard this warning: "You never get a second chance to make a good first impression." Also, psychologists, writers, and seminar leaders caution that we only have from seven to seventeen seconds of interacting with strangers before they form an opinion of us. With this widely acknowledged pressure to "make our case" instantly, here are my seven tips for making your first impression strongly positive. 1. The greatest way to make a positive first impression is to demonstrate immediately that the other person--not you--is the center of action and conversation. Illustrate that the spotlight is on you only, and you'll miss opportunities for friendships, jobs, love relationships, networking, and sales. Show that you are other-centered, and first-time acquaintances will be eager to see you again. Recently I attended a conference. At lunch, my wife and I sat with several people we didn't know. While most of our tablemates made good impressions, one man emerged as the person we'd be sure to avoid all weekend. He talked about himself, non-stop. Only rarely did anyone else get a chance to speak. Unfortunately, he probably thought he was captivating us with his life story. I applaud this definition of a bore: "Somebody who talks about himself so much that you don't get to talk about yourself." ** To read the full article, go here. ------------------------------------------------------------ *** ARTICLE: The Top 10 Very Useful or Necessary Things For Anyone Over Age 30 To Have Or To Know - Dennis R. Tesdell *** ------------------------------------------------------------ After age 25-30, depending on marital status and other things, it becomes more and more helpful to have and to know certain things. Some are practical and some make sense from a life planning standpoint. The following are suggested for anyone over age 30, single or married, male or female, "wealthy" or of more "average" means. 1. A "Last Will And Testament" Prepared By An Attorney. Our time on Earth is numbered. We don't know what our number is. Makes sense to have a Will. A "Living Will" also makes sense if you want to be sure your wishes regarding how you die or are "kept alive" are honored. Included may also be a "Memorandum." 2. Adequate Household And Liability Insurance. This includes household contents, autos (it costs VERY little to jump from the standard $5,000 per person medical coverage to $25,000!) as well as business and liability insurance. Make sure any fine art/antique items are appraised and insured on a separate "floater" policy. 3. A Personal Financial Plan For NOW and For The FUTURE. Done by yourself, by using one of many computer and other "kits" sold, or by using a financial planner, it makes good sense to know where you are now, and where you need and want to be in 20-30 years financially. ** To read the full article, go here. ------------------------------------------------------------ *** BOOK REVIEW: Your Erroneous Zones: Step-by-Step Advice for Escaping the Trap of Negative Thinking and Taking Control of Your Life - by Wayne Dyer *** ------------------------------------------------------------ From the author of the multimillion-copy bestseller Pulling Your Own Strings, positive and practical advice for breaking free from the trap of negative thinking and enjoying life to the fullest. If you're plagued by guilt or worry and find yourself unwittingly falling into the same old self-destructive patterns, then you have "erroneous zones"--whole facets of your approach to life that act as barriers to your success and happiness. If you believe that you have no control over your feelings and reactions, you give up the many choices that are available to you. Dyer shows how you can take charge of yourself and manage how much you will let difficult times--and people--affect you. If you spend more time worrying what others think than working on what you want and need, you will always be disappointed. Dyer shows that only you can make yourself happy and points the way to true self-reliance. If you are still caught up in old labels for yourself and an out-of-date self-image, you cancel out your present potential. Dyer shows how you can break out of the patterns of the post to become fulfilled in the present. If you depend upon others for your well-being, you lose yourself. Dyer shows how to take control of your own needs and learn to give and receive love without limits. ***** The list Price of this book is $14.99.
