[EzineArticles] Add Laser Focus to Your Article Writing Process

Brainstorming Techniques for Expert Authors

Brainstorming is a technique many Expert Authors use to cultivate ideas and tap into creative sources to keep their articles informative and laser-focused.

Try the following brainstorming techniques to unlock the power of your articles!

Mind Mapping

Mind maps help you organize your thoughts by being able to see them visually. This technique also taps into the creative and resourceful part of your mind. This in turn helps you write better and more engaging articles!

Begin a topic, which we will refer to as "the root." Then start writing ideas that stem off from that root, and then write more ideas that stem off that root, and so on!

For example: Let's say I'm dog groomer and I'm stumped for article ideas. So I focus on my root "dog grooming tips" to get started and I let everything naturally flow from this root idea as it comes to me.

Mind Map - Dog Grooming Tips

Involves: dog nutrition for a healthy coat, brushing, and bathing. (Bathing! This reminds me that flea season is upon us with all the wet weather we had...)

Flea Season

  • treatment indoor/outdoor
  • prevention
  • hiring a professional to get rid of fleas (Professionals! Groomers and exterminators…)

How to Hire/Find a Professional

  • dog groomers
  • exterminators
  • check credentials
  • products professionals use (Products! Safe for home use and heavy duty…)

...and so on!

The 5 Ws and the H

Outlining the 5 Ws and the H (Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How) creates an intuitive checklist and background for you to reference while writing. This helps you target your audience's needs! Aiming your articles engages your audience, which builds loyalty to you and your site.

Here's an example:

  • Who is your Audience?
  • What are their needs or wants?
  • Where do they go to get it?
  • When do they need it?
  • Why do they need it?
  • How can you over deliver on it?

Pump Up Your Brainstorming Routine

Grab a stopwatch and try these 15 minute brainstorming sessions:

  1. Stream of Conscious Writing: Begin by writing the first idea that pops into your head and keep writing wherever your mind takes you. It can completely change from the original topic, but keep writing! This technique helps unlock any article ideas you never knew you had!
  2. The Power of Lists: Pick a topic and begin creating a list of all the attributes of that topic. It could be a Pros or Cons list, best or worst, etc. Share your results in an article!
  3. Read Up: Pick an article and read it. After reading, set your stopwatch and begin writing everything you can remember about the article, any impressions, and how the article's topic impacts your niche. This technique helps build your repertoire by gathering new information and you can share your impressions and the impact the topic has on your niche with your audience!

What methods or techniques do you use to brainstorm and stay motivated while writing articles? Share your story about how brainstorming has gotten you results in your article writing efforts in the comments section of our blog, here!

Jacqueline Coote "Thank you EzineArticles for your support!"

Being a self-taught artist I was always skeptical about starting to paint and designing my own website. I always felt that way about writing articles, too. Once I joined EzineArticles and began to submit articles, I gained the self-confidence I didn't have before. It has also added traffic to my website. I hope to continue to write articles of interest and look forward to my increase in sales.

Thomas, Enhance your Author’s Bio And Get More Clicks!

Hello Thomas,

Welcome to your weekly article marketing tip!

TIP #11 - Add a Picture to Your Author's
Bio and Get More Clicks!

You can add your picture to your author bio.
The picture will appear next to your articles,
on your author profile and near your article
summary on search results.

People like seeing who it is that is giving them
advice, and showing them who you are is one
more step in promoting yourself.

In order to add a picture to the author bio,
log in to your account at Articlesbase.com with
your e-mail and password, go to Manage
Authors -> Edit Info and click the "browse"
button in order to find the picture on your hard
disk.

Please notice - if the upload does not go through,
it means the file size is too big. Try to resize the
picture by using a graphics software such as
Windows Paint (located under programs ->
accessories).

We hope you have found this tip useful and
we'll be delighted to hear your feedback and
suggestions at support@articlesbase.com.

[EzineArticles Training] Article Title Questions

Article Writing & Marketing - Article Title
Article Title Questions

Hello Training Series Member,

Here is the next edition of the EzineArticles.com Article Writing and Marketing: Article Title Training Series.

Ask yourself: "Does my article title entice the reader to ask a question?"
E.g. "Why?," "How?," "Who?," "Where?," "When?," etc.
  1. After reading your article title, a question should appear in the reader's mind. Your article body is where you deliver the answer to that question.

  2. This is a powerful concept because you have just engaged the mind of your reader, moving them from a passive to an active state. In the active state, your reader is more likely to find value in your content and thus visit your website.

  3. Never underestimate the power of "How To" article titles. There is clearly a huge demand for articles that answer common problems in an easy-to-read "How To" format.

  4. Don't be afraid to offer your readers more questions they should ask themselves when evaluating the topic of your article. Questions become highly relevant answers to your readers because your questions act like a personal coaching session.

  5. Avoid the shocking question that forces you to stretch the truth to answer the question in your article body. Instead, be creative and interesting with your article title question.
The next edition of the EzineArticles.com Article Writing and Marketing: Article Title Training Series will offer tips to narrow your article title's focus.

Thomas, How To Approach Articles Directories?

Hi Thomas,

I want to invite you to read this week's tip:

TIP #10: How to Approach Articles Directories

Article marketing is one of the best ways
to effectively propagate your website or
business online. While there are a number
of ways to submit your articles, one of the
best resources for this purpose are online
directories.

Today there is such a large demand for
articles on the Internet that most article
directories offer their services absolutely
free of cost.

Then there are those niche directories
that cater to select target audiences,
hence they charge a subscription amount
from the user. However, the choice of
whether to opt for a free or a paid article
directory is a matter of personal preference,
although most free directories offer you
the same if not better levels of service.

We hope you have found this tip useful and
we'll be delighted to hear your feedback and
suggestions at support@articlesbase.com.

[EzineArticles Training] Article Title Promise

Article Writing & Marketing - Article Title
Article Title Promise

Hello Training Series Member,

Here is the next edition of the EzineArticles.com Article Writing and Marketing: Article Title Training Series.

Your article title is more than just an accurate description about what the reader will find in your article body; it's a promise you make to build a trust relationship with your readership.

Ask yourself: "What does my article title promise to give to my reader?"
  1. Your article title should promise to deliver your expert information on a specific topic. It should build interest or motivation.

  2. Within 2-5 seconds of anyone reading your article, they should be able to clearly see the answer to the promise you made in your article title.

  3. Do not bait or trick your reader into being forced to visit your website to see the answer to the promise you made in your article title. This is a credibility and trust violation.

  4. If you have a very short article title, be certain that your article body includes the most socially acceptable or expected solution or information that any reasonable person would expect from a short title. Better yet, don't use very short article titles. Instead, make them longer and more descriptive.

Ask yourself: "Does my article body deliver on the promise made in my article title?"

When you can answer that question with an absolute "YES!", you know you have the makings of an excellent article.

The next edition of the EzineArticles.com Article Writing and Marketing: Article Title Training Series will explain the Article Title Question concept.
